Haunted Haven, a Halloween village consisting of haunted houses, figures and other accessories, was an exclusive, I believe, for Caldor Department Stores which closed in the mid 1990’s. I bought this village in 1994-95, but seem to remember seeing it those stores years before in the 1980’s.
This collection is in excellent condition. Some of the houses, but not all are in boxes. It is a very colorful village; exquisitely decorated and filled with ghosts, witches and other characters and creatures having a good time with their favorite holiday.
The finely detailed hand painted porcelain village features lighted houses and buildings. All have light cords except for two of the upright “tower” houses. Some of the buildings are spooky, but fun Halloween houses, while one is a pumpkin and another a squash-type vegetables transformed into haunted homes. A description of the village series on one box reads:
“Haunted Haven is a magical place that brings joy to the children in Jack Hollow County. The air is full of excitement as townsfolk busy themselves with festive creations such as jack o’ lanterns, glowing skeletons and hanging spiders.
“To local dwellings the children go transformed by the full moon into ghouls, ghosts and goblins. The elders gather on porches to share the legend and folklore of gentle ghosts that were said to inhabit the town’s oldest landmarks.”
